If you like some action with your romance. Then this book should be right up your alley. It has lots going on from the opening pages to how it ends. If you believe in demons and angels it might scare the bejesus out of you. Having no control over when they appear for good or evil is indeed frightening. To realize that the sour mood someone is constantly in or the unthinkable mass killing of an entire family could be the work of demons makes one wonder.
One never thinks of a vampire being vulnerable, scared or lonely. Marcy Jacks has managed to create just that in sad tragic figure Derek Morgan (l don't know if it was accidental, but I definitely enjoyed a MC having the same name as another very handsome sexy fictional character). Who imagined that a vampire could be subject to demonic possession? Why would a demon even be interested in vampires? Also don't some think that vampires themselves are a type of demon?
Of all the potential demon generals this one touched me the most. His life was so poignant. His loneliness pervasive. His melancholy long lasting and deeply felt. The solitary confinement he had been forced to endure as punishment as well as to protect others hurt down deep. He had been subjected to the torment of the little demon minions as had the other half breeds. It wasn't until it was explained to him that his "pets" might be keeping them away did he realize they were preferable to their larger more powerful counterparts.
A tragedy amongst the angel warriors has led the second MC into Derek's life. Somewhere he doesn't want to be and he lets Derek know how unhappy he is. How can a guardian angel protect someone he would rather not be around? Is it better to be alone than with someone who finds you contemptible?
Despite the depressing settings, violence, possessions, death and destruction there are moments of sweetness and tenderness. Of love and great sacrifice. Of profound grief and tragedy. With the the three potential demon generals found, what could the fourth book in the series be about? I guess I'll have to read it to find out.
